Walk into almost any church on a Sunday morning and someone is looking for nursery workers, greeters, or help in the parking lot. Most churches believe they simply do not have enough volunteers. After many years of working with churches and volunteers, I have become convinced that is rarely the real problem. Most churches do not have a volunteer problem. They have a recruiting problem.

Most churches ask, "Who can fill this position?" God asks a very different question: "Who did I create for this purpose?" One begins with a ministry need. The other begins with a person He intentionally designed. Follow Me takes the Seven Core Motivations into the way churches build teams: why each one hears a different invitation, how to have the conversation that discovers calling instead of filling a slot, how to appreciate people in the way they actually receive it, and why volunteers burn out long before they quit.

Jesus never stood on a hillside asking for twelve volunteers. He invited ordinary people into an extraordinary mission with two words. So this book is not really about recruiting volunteers. It is about helping people discover their calling.

People don't volunteer because a position is open. They volunteer because something inside them comes alive.
